LITHIUM SECONDARY BATTERY

Provided is a lithium secondary battery which is improved in high rate discharge characteristics and lifetime characteristics by using a separator having excellent shortage resistance and heat resistance. The lithium secondary battery comprises a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator which isolates the two electrodes, and a nonaqueous electrolyte solution, wherein the separator is made of a porous membrane comprising a ceramic material and a binder. The binder comprises an acrylic rubber having a three dimensional crosslinking structure. Preferably the acrylic rubber having a three dimensional crosslinking structure has 2-10 crosslinking points to 10,000 molecular weight units of a main chain molecule.
