816,198. Commutators for dynamo-electric machines. BOSCH G.m.b.H., R. Dec. 9, 1957 [Dec. 19, 1956], No. 38150/57. Class 35. [Also in Group XXII] In a moulded commutator in which the moulded material 10 is reinforced by circumferential turns of wire 14 which also serve as a hub surface 13 for mounting on the spindle, the wire has axial kinks or other deformations to ensure regular spacing and penetration of the moulding material between the turns. As shown in Fig. 2, the reinforcing comprises a sinuously curved steel wire 14 encircling the bore so that adjacent turns make only occasional contact. As shown in Fig. 3, a square wire 15 is sharply bent at about 60 degrees to form a series of hexagons when coiled. Modifications are described in which a rectangular steel strip is either twisted continuously along its length or twisted sharply in alternate directions at rightangles. To secure the turns where they make contact, the wire may be coated with a hard solder containing copper, or the coil is coated electrolytically with copper and then heated in hydrogen. Alternatively, the turns may be secured by axial strips of weld or by dipping the coil in molten tin. |
