Removal of faulty material on continuous winder, e.g. for cables or insulated wires, involves temporarily moving traverse guide to wind material onto waste collection disk

Under normal operation the traverse guide roller (14) reciprocates (15) to wind a cable (K) in a pre-determined pattern alternately on two rotating bobbins (S1, S2). When a fault has been detected the guide roller (14) moves into a waste winding position to wind the faulty material on a conical waste collection disk (31). Guide rollers (R1, R2) are mounted on a driven (34) ring (32) to assist in placing the waste loop on the waste disk (31). An independent claim is included for the process of monitoring the material and transferring any faulty material on to a waste disk. The faulty material is cut out and winding of the bobbin in the required pattern is continued.
