A self-supporting sandwich element for use as a roof or wall element in smaller or medium-sized houses. The element is made up of two parallel metal plates at a certain mutual distance apart and the interspace between them is filled with foamed concrete made of cement, water and a bicomponent foaming agent. By keeping the bulk density of the foamed concrete down within the range 200- 600 kg/m3, an element having a low heat transmission coefficient (0.06-0.10 W/(m3 . K)) is obtained. Because of the good adhesion between the metal plates and foamed concrete and the good strength characteristics of the foamed concrete, an element is obtained which has very good bearing strength and is insensitive to shock. |
