PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active matrix type display device capable of optimizing both flatness and optical abstraction by an optical cavity effect to improve performance of a display device. SOLUTION: In the display device, insulating layers (14; 14') cover the active matrix and each electro-optical element has a lower electrode (16';16") provided on the surface of the insulating layer. The lower electrode includes an organic conductive layer (161;161') which is directly provided on the surface of the insulating layer (14;14') and a metal layer covering the organic conductive layer.
