PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic program guide whereby a number of simultaneously displayable programs can be increased without losing ease of identification of program names by a user. SOLUTION: A specified length of characters is assigned for every time and an abbreviated program title in matching with the character length is processed. A transmission side transmits abbreviated program titles edited in a way capable of being identified by a user within the assigned character length. A receiver side ensures a frame of the character length specified for every program time and displays the abbreviated program titles. When the user designates a program whose abbreviated program title is displayed on the program guide, a formal program title not abbreviated is displayed to be capable of simply displaying an ordinary program title, whereby the user can easily grasp a relationship between the abbreviated program title and the ordinary program title. Thus, the number of simultaneously displayable programs on the program guide can be increased without largely losing ease of identification by the user about the program names.
