PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a route search method for a navigation system or the like allowing detailed search including a narrow street, irrespective of a length of a search distance from a start point up to a destination, and complication of a road shape. SOLUTION: This route search method has a route search server unit in every divided area of the map data. The route search server unit is provided with a step for receiving the first search information from the route search server unit in the area neighboring to a search start point side, a step for searching the route within one's own area, based on the first search information, and a step for transmitting the second search information, that is the first search information updated according to a search result in the route search, to the route search server unit in the area neighboring to a search finish point side, and searches a detail route from the start point up to the destination.
