PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document management apparatus capable of easily capturing scan images from a plurality of terminals without the need for application of any modification to an apparatus body even when the number of transmission destinations of the scanned images is increased. SOLUTION: After setting an original to an original placing part of a read section 15, when an operator carries out operations of a scanner, the scanner carries out read processing of the original and stores image data to an image memory 16. Then a CODEC 18 converts a file form of the scanned image data stored in the image memory 16 into a file form attachable to electronic mail to produce a file to be attached to the electronic mail, and the attached file is attached to the mail and the resulting mail is registered in a shared mail box of a mail storage section 21.
