The dispenser for liquids or pastes has a spray head (12) mounted in a cup-shaped mounting (7). When the head is pressed down it operates a piston (18) mounted in a pump chamber (8) and a spring (11) around the chamber returns the head to its original position. The top of the spring rests on axial ribs (35) on the inside of the head which lie outside an imaginary extension of the pump chamber walls. An independent claim is included for a similar dispenser where the springs are supported against a mushroom-shaped stop which fits into the top of the pump chamber.
