Method for determining the oxidative stress potential (OSP) of a test substance (I) comprises incubating (I) with at least one dye (II) in presence of living cells and drawing conclusions about OSP from the temporal variation of the absorption of the medium. An independent claim is also included for a kit for determining OSP comprising at least live cells, (II) and a substrate.
