The method involves optically detecting information, which contains an individual code of an animal, using scanners (6, 7) of an animal identification system. A scanner dependent parameter is determined from the detected information, and the determined parameter is compared with a reference parameter, which is derived from a number of animals to be identified. Strength of the signals of transponders is determined and stored. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a diagnostic device for an animal identification system (2) a milking installation comprising an animal identification system. |
