PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for a spark ignition engine which can effectively suppress torque shock when shifting from a special operation mode into a regular operation mode in the spark ignition engine for running by selectively switching at least the special operation mode and the regular operation mode. SOLUTION: In the engine, the special operation mode run forming a plurality of two-cylinder connection groups (α,β) and the regular operation mode of each cylinder independent state can be switched. In switching from the special operation mode into the regular operation mode, a gas circulation passage is switched by shifting the timing between the groups (α: t3→β: t5), and the combustion torque reduction control is carried out to reduce the combustion torque of the first combustion cylinder (T3→TA) after switching the regular operation mode.
