FOCUS DETECTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus detector capable of restraining current consumption without taking much read time even when the number of focus detection parts is increased. SOLUTION: The focus detector includes: the focus detection parts 10a and 10b for detecting two subject images passing through different optical paths nearly in the vertical direction of a focusing lens and two subject images passing through different optical paths nearly in the horizontal direction of the focusing lens; a multiplexer 36 for reading output values from the focus detection parts 10a and 10b and selectively outputting them; and a controller 35 for controlling the operation of the predetermined focus detection part only and also controlling the multiplexer 36 so that output values from the focus detection parts read in the same timing by the multiplexer 36 can be arranged time sequentially.
