PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multiple direction input device which prevents the deterioration of the operation feeling of an operation element. SOLUTION: The multiple direction input device includes an operation element 2 which can be operated in a first direction and a second direction which intersect perpendicularly mutually, a drive rod 13 held slidably in the housing hole 11a of a cylindrical projection 11 provided in this operation element 2, a guide member 16 in which an aperture 18 for guiding the outside surface of the cylindrical projection 11, a support 15 in which a cam part 14 consists of a conical recess is formed, a helical spring 12 which turns the drive rod 13 to the inner bottom of the cam part 14 and elastically urges it, and four photo interrupters 22 which are detection means each for detecting the movement of the operating element 2 in the first and second directions.
