PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform recording and reproducing for a standard optical disk and a high density optical disk having different recording density with stream format optimum for respective disks in accordance with a type (analog/digital, TS/PS) of inputted signal, picture quality (SD/HD) of digital broadcasting, or the like. SOLUTION: Recording formats of both of TS and PS are decided for the high density optical disk, a PS/TS conversion circuit is controlled based on an input discrimination result and a SD/FD discrimination result, recording is performed with an optimum recording stream.
