PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device and an illumination fixture where lighting can be thinned out so that at least one discharge lamp is turned on, and cost can be reduced. SOLUTION: This discharge lamp lighting device 1 is provided with a first resonance circuit 4 connected in between outputs of an inverter circuit 3, a second resonance circuit 5 having a natural resonance frequency f02 that is approximately equal to the natural resonance frequency f01 of the first resonance circuit 4 connected in parallel with the first resonance circuit 4; first and second discharge lamps 6, 7 which are connected in series to the first resonance circuit 4 and of which rated lamp current are approximately equal, a third discharge lamp 8, of which the rated lamp voltage is larger than that of the first and the second discharge lamps 6, 7 connected to the second resonance circuit 5 and of which the rated lamp current is approximately equal; and a control circuit 9 in which the inverter circuit 3 is controlled by an oscillation frequency f0 in the neighborhood of the intrinsic resonance frequencies f01, f02.
