PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily measure a deformation stress precisely when measuring a high-speed deformation characteristic of a material serving as an evaluation reference in collision simulation and collision safety design. SOLUTION: In a high-speed tension or compression load measuring instrument comprising a fastening part having a fixing part 11 for fixing a test piece 1 of round rod shape or plate shape, a load detecting part 2 for measuring a tension load or a compression load, a support mechanism 3 for supporting the fastening part and an elastic rod 4 for imparting tension or compression deformation to the test piece 1, the fastening part is integrated with the load detecting part 2, (cross-sectional area of the fixing part 11)≤(cross-sectional area of the load detecting part 2)≤(cross-sectional area of the support mechanism 3) is satisfied, and a movable part for imparting the tension or compression deformation to the test piece 1 is constituted of the elastic rod 4 and a stress wave pulse generation mechanism.
