<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure of the steering column of a vehicle, which structure can carry out a lifting operation of the steering column and a pushing operation of a brake pedal by one operation irrespective of the kinds of mounted transmissions. <P>SOLUTION: The steering column 1 has a column swiveling portion 1b for moving a steering wheel 3 between a normal position and a lifted-up position, and a column fixing portion 1a for supporting the column swiveling portion 1b, wherein the column fixing portion 1a is attached to a car body by means of an upper mounting portion 4 and a lower mounting portion 5. The column fixing portion 1a has a transmitting portion 16 attached to it via an arm 15. The transmitting portion 16 is provided with a braking portion 11 on its tip end side.
