PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat panel display apparatus in which a space between a front face protective plate and a display panel is not made to be almost sealed space but open space. SOLUTION: The flat panel display apparatus is made into a display apparatus by combining at least two flat planes to form a panel, forming pixels inside the panel by planes opposite to each other of the two flat planes, and by controlling the drive of each pixel by electric driving, and the flat panel display apparatus includes a control part for controlling a power source for supplying power and driving, and the front face protective plate in front of the screen of the panel. The flat panel display apparatus is characterized in that the front face protective plate has: an open/close means operated by a user and for opening/closing the front face plate; a detection means for detecting opening/closing of the front face plate; and a power supply control means for controlling power supply according to the open/close state of the front face protective plate detected by the detection means, and when the detection means detects the "open" state of the front face protective plate when the flat panel display apparatus is in the driven state, the power supply control means stops supplying power to the panel.
