PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data relaying apparatus and a fault recovery method capable of restoring a fault in a shared part by minimizing a range of communication interruption without making a role assigned to the data relying apparatus complicated. SOLUTION: In a multi-ring network wherein part of a plurality of rings is shared, the data relaying apparatus 300a of the shared part selects a ring 2 to be an initial primary ring, on the occurrence of a fault in the shared part, a port of a faulty part is blocked, and a trap packet for informing of the fault is transmitted to the primary ring only. Transmitting the trap packet only to the primary ring on the occurrence of a fault in the shared part can restore the fault without causing a super-loop in this way. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
