<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display and a method for driving the same in which an addressing time of a discharge cell and electric power consumption can be reduced. <P>SOLUTION: The plasma display panel includes a rear substrate 110 and a front substrate 120 in face to face with each other with a discharge space therebetween, a plurality of barrier ribs 113 arranged between the rear substrate and the front substrate to partition the discharge space, at least one pair of first and second sustain electrodes 121a and 121b arranged so as to correspond to each of at least one discharge cell 114 formed between the barrier ribs, electron emission sources 130 that correspond to the discharge cells, emit electrons e into the discharge cells to address the discharge cells and simultaneously cause a sustain discharge between the first and second sustain electrodes, and a fluorescent layer 115 coated on inner walls of the discharge cells.
