Method and apparatus for generating a high frequency signal (HFS) from a base band signal (BBS), the method improving the quality of the high frequency signal by compensation of nonlinearities that might occur during the generation of the high frequency signal, the method and apparatus comprising a digital control loop performed pre-distortion (PRED) of the base band signal. Preferably the pre-distortion of the base band signal is performed by a pre-distortion of the envelope of the base band signal together with a reconstruction of phase and amplitude of the base band signal by an adaptive digital filter (DF) and the high frequency output signal of a power amplifier (PA) is used to calculate the filter characteristic of the adaptive digital filter (DF).
