The filter, comprising a pouch (100) fitted over the intake (210) of a fuel pump (200), includes a section (142) that completely covers the intake so that any fuel entering the pump has to pass through two layers of fabric (140, 160). The layers are generally circular in shape, with their edges fixed together by a weld (170) or other means, and can have a mesh of the same or different sizes. The pouch has an over-moulded fixing tube (144) for attaching it to the pump intake.
