PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a modified diene-based polymer rubber having an excellent repulsive elasticity and capable of regulating the amount of production of a high molecular weight component. SOLUTION: This method for producing the modified diene-based rubber is provided by rapidly progressing the reaction of a process 1 by adding a cyclic, an aliphatic or an aromatic ether before performing the process 2, for regulating the amount of production of the high molecular weight component. Process 1: A conjugated diene monomer, or the conjugated diene monomer with an aromatic vinyl monomer are polymerized in a hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of an alkali metal catalyst to obtain an active polymer having alkali metal terminals. Process 2: The active polymer is reacted with a compound expressed by formula (2) [wherein, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>are each independently a 1-4C alkyl; R<SP>3</SP>is a 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy; and (n) is an integer of 1-10] to produce the modified polymer rubber.
