<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for displaying the remaining amount of toner where an electrophotographic image forming apparatus provides the remaining amount of toner, as accurately as possible using a simple constitution. <P>SOLUTION: A starter cartridge is loaded first and an image formation unit 6 (S1) is set in a primary apparatus body to detect "brand-new" (S2); and an engine control section 64 recognizes a toner charging amount of cartridge ID information (S3). The remaining amount of toner is reported with toner consumption per dot as a default value (S4), and print dots are accumulated (S5); when printing is stopped, because of no toner (S6), toner one-dot actual consumption is calculated (S7) and the default value is rewritten (S8). The toner charging amount of a brand-new option cartridge after replacement and the calculated toner one-dot actual consumption are stored, thereafter (S9 and S11), and a new remaining amount rate of toner is calculated (S12) from a print dot accumulated value, counted by an initialized print dot counter (S10) and the toner one-dot actual consumption and recorded in a memory 68 (S13), so that the new remaining amount rate is displayed and reported (S14). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
