A cover body has a plastic frame(31) injected around the outer edge in a molding tool and inserts(11,12,13). An edge of each insert, which is only partly covered by the plastic frame, has a slot(40). A tool seal(37) located in the slot prevents injected material from penetrating inwards towards the center of the cover body. The slot size(40) is such that the seal(37) lies on the cover body near the slot end facing the insert edge and covers the majority of the slot area. Each slot is straight and at a right angle to an insert edge. The cover body can be either a glass plate or transparent plastic sheet. Inserts are formed in thin metal sheet and four of them extend along the four sides of the cover body to form a frame. The plastic frame covers an outer edge of each insert leaving inner areas free. Each insert has a reinforcing seam(20) whose base is on the side of the cover body facing the vehicle interior. An independent claim is included for a process for manufacturing a cover for a vehicle roof in which a cover body and inserts are placed in an injection tool with an insert on each side of the body. A seal(37) is located in a slot in an edge of each insert on the side of each insert facing away from the cover body. Fluid plastic is injected into the outer edge of the cover body and the seal prevents radially inward penetration of the plastic so that each insert is only partly covered.
