PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lighten a shock caused during pressing by controlling vertical movement of a slide and a cushion pad installed in a single action press. SOLUTION: A slide is lowered from a top dead center and is stopped when an upper die touches or approaches a work (material to be formed). By gradually raising the cushion pad while keeping the slide stopped, a blank-holder force is generated pinching a part of work with the upper die and a supporting member jointed to the cushion pad, while a speed of the slide relative to the cushion pad is kept at almost zero. Both the slide and the cushion pad are simultaneously lowered after the blank-holder force is generated so that the work is drawn and formed by the upper die and the lower die.
