PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dry type anaerobic digester which is capable of efficiently and stably performing methane fermentation of waste with low water content. SOLUTION: A cylindrical digestion tank 2 is provided with an inlet 3 and an outlet 5 in the vicinity of one end and the other end, respectively, in the longitudinal direction for solid or semi-solid organic waste A and an anaerobic microorganism B, wherein a rotating shaft 11 penetrates the digestion tank 2 along the central axis thereof, a pair of support plates 14 and 15 are fixed on the rotating shaft 11 so that the plates cross the shaft 11, and an agitation mechanism 10 is produced, which has both ends supported by the pair of support plates 14 and 15 and is provided with a plurality of agitation members 16 disposed extending between the support plates 14 and 15. The rotating shaft 11 is driven by a driving apparatus 19 while keeping a temperature at which the anaerobic microorganism B is active within the digestion tank 2 by an insulating means 30. For example, the support plates 14 and 15 are fixed on the one end and on the other end within the digestion tank 2 on the rotating shaft 11 and the agitation members 16 are disposed extending over the entire length within the digestion tank 2. Preferably, the agitation members 16 are inclined or curved between the central axis and the inner circumference face within the digestion tank 2 and then the waste A within the digestion tank 2 is uniformly agitated from the central axis to the inner circumference face.
