The device has a position sensor (16), which magnetically, inductively, capacitively or optically measures a movement of a friction brake (1) caused during operation of the friction brake by a brake body (4). The position sensor has a permanent magnet, a magnetic sensor, a coil and a core. The magnetic sensor or the coil is arranged at the friction brake, and the magnet or the core is fixedly arranged on a side of an automobile.
