PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a key storing device which can be attached to an existing lockable cabinet by an additional installment work. SOLUTION: The key storing device for keeping keys K for the lockable cabinets 11, 12, 13 which store papers comprises: (a) a key storing box 14 provided with mounting claws 40 to be closely attached and fastened on to outer panels of the lockable cabinets 11, 12, 13, brackets 38, 39, an outer cover 30 for closing a key storing part 32 wherein the key K is stored and a locking solenoid 43 which locks the outer cover 30 when closed, (b) a control unit 15 which identifies individuals, is connected to a personal computer 20 transmitting an open-request command to permit the individual identified to open the key storing box and releases, on receipt of the command, a lock lever 49 by actuating the locking solenoid 20 of the key storing box 14.
