PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing machine which hardly requires a space around an outer box and operability in the case of putting laundry articles in and out is improved. SOLUTION: In the outer box 1 having an opening part 6, a water tub 2 having an opening part 8 opposing the opening part 6 is arranged. In the water tub 2, a rotary drum 3 for housing the laundry articles is arranged rotatably. The opening part 6 of the outer box 1 is opened and closed with an outer door 7 sliding with respect to the outer box 1, and the opening part 8 of the water tub 2 is opened and closed with a lid 9 fitted to the water tub 2 turnably. A cover member 10 surrounding the opening part 8 of the water tub 2 is fitted to the water tub 2. The cover member 10 is larger than the opening part 6 of the outer box 1.
