PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an isopropylbenzene-based compound by reaction between propylene and benzene or toluene in the presence of an aluminum chloride catalyst, while suppressing chloride deposition in the rectification column attributable to the reaction between chlorine ion and a neutralizing agent by reducing the inflow of the chlorine ion into the column as a problem in the rectification step to enable the long-term continuous operation of the column. SOLUTION: The method for producing the isopropylbenzene-based compound comprises the step A of the caustic washing of a reaction liquid resulted from the reaction between propylene and benzene or toluene in the presence of an aluminum chloride catalyst, the step B of the water washing of the caustic-washed reaction liquid, the step C of cooling the water-washed reaction liquid, and the step D of separating and removing water contained in the oily phase of the cooled reaction liquid.
