PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermoelectric material formed of a clathrate compound having an excellent thermoelectric characteristic similar to that of the related art without necessity of heat treatment for a long period of time which has been essentially conducted. SOLUTION: The thermoelectric material formed of a clathrate compound includes the composition expressed with the following expression, Ba<SB>8</SB>Ga<SB>X</SB>Ge<SB>(44-X)</SB>, where 14≤X≤18.
