The caliper has a cylindrical base body (2) that is cut from a surface. The body has a surface normal to an axis (5) of the cylindrical base body, so that a tip (7) is formed at an axial end (6) of the caliper. The tip has a flat portion (8), which extends perpendicular to the surface normal and perpendicular to the axis, where width of the flat portion ranges between 40-60 micrometer. An independent claim is also included for a cut sensing method for determining the form of a workpiece.
