The method for unwrapping rolls of printing paper for reel-fed rotary printers comprises: (1) cutting off the end wrapping; (2) applying a cutter (15) fitted with a suction system (19, 20) to the circumferential wrapping (12), so that it is sucked upwards (18); (3) cutting the packing axially at this point; (4) unwinding the wrapping while it is still attached to the printing paper; and (5) cutting the wrapping off and fixing the free end of the paper to the roll.
