PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a metal carbide used as a raw material for cemented carbide materials, a raw material for heat-resistant compounds, a catalyst, an electronic material, etc., in good yield at relatively low temperatures. SOLUTION: A resin powder such as a thermosetting resin is added and mixed with a metal oxide powder such as a transition metal and the resultant resin of the mixed powder is then cured and subsequently heated at >=800 deg.C in an inert gas to provide a metal carbide. The above mixed powder is preferably hot pressed to afford a formed compact in which the resin is cured and the resultant formed compact is then preferably heated in the inert gas. |
