PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink-jet recording device having such a structure that deposit generated on a preliminary ejection receiving portion is washed out while minimizing consumption of inks, and to provide a preliminary ejection method. SOLUTION: According to the structure of the ink-jet recording device, the preliminary ejection receiving portion for receiving the preliminarily ejected inks, is arranged so as to have an inclined surface with respect to the horizontal plane, and an ink that has relatively high thickening properties is preliminarily ejected onto a low area on the inclined surface of the preliminarily ejected ink receiving portion. Thus inks having low thickening properties applied to an upstream area with respect to the low area, flow on the area of the preliminarily ejected ink receiving portion, to which the ink having the high thickening properties is applied. Therefore, the effect of washing out the ink having the high thickening properties is increased, and the preliminarily ejected ink receiving portion is proof against ink deposition, to thereby suppress various inconveniences caused by the ink deposition.
