PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information providing device and an information providing method for further narrowing down relevant information closer to target information to provide the narrowed result even if there are a large number of items of recommendable relevant information.

SOLUTION: The device is provided with: a time acquisition unit 12 acquiring a time as time information 12a when information 19a is required from a portable terminal 3; a position acquisition unit 13 acquiring the position of the corresponding portable terminal 3 as position information 13a when the information 19a is required from the portable terminal 3; an information storage unit 14 associating the time information 12a, the position information 13a and relevant information 19b relevant to the information 19a with one another to store them; an information selecting unit 17 selecting relevant information 17a associated with the time information 12a and the position information 13a satisfying prescribed conditions to be stored in the storage unit 14; and information providing unit 18 providing the relevant information 17a selected by the selecting unit 17 to the portable terminal 3.
