PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep a surface potential of a photosensitive drum approximately uniform in its axial direction without increasing the cost or decreasing the productivity and to prevent problems such as fog in an image forming apparatus using an amorphous silicon photosensitive drum. SOLUTION: On irradiating an amorphous silicon photosensitive drum 2 with discharging light from an LED array 61 having a plurality of LEDs 612 laterally arranged along a line, the discharging light is guided by use of an optical path keeping member 623. The gap between the edge 623e of the optical path keeping member 623 and the photosensitive drum 2 is controlled in such a manner that on first shortest lines L11, L12, L13 connecting the respective LEDs 612 and the surface of the photosensitive drum 2, the gap is a relatively short first distance d1, while on second shortest lines L21, L22 connecting the center points P1, P2 of the LEDs 612 and the surface of the photosensitive drum 2, the gap is a second distance d2 longer than the first distance d1, which controls the discharging light quantity given to the surface of the photosensitive drum 2 to be uniform in the axial direction.
