PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a nonwoven fabric having smoothness and flexibility. SOLUTION: This method for producing the nonwoven fabric comprises subjecting an air-through nonwoven raw fabric to calender processing, so as to deform fibers contained in the nonwoven raw fabric into a flat shape, and orientating a major axis of a cross section of each of fibers deformed into the flat shape in a direction approximately parallel to a surface of the nonwoven raw fabric, wherein the calender processing is conducted in a multi-stage manner, and any one of processes in the multi-stage calender processing is conducted under a condition of a linear load of 20-200 N/cm at room temperature by using a calender roll made of metal and a resin roll having a D hardness (JIS K6253) of 40-100 degree.
