PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coil unit and an armature which have an improved space factor and are easily manufactured irrespective of the shape of a wire rod. SOLUTION: The coil unit employs a continuous multi-stage system which chains a plurality of coils continuously in such a configuration that one wire rod 2 is wound with the shape having at least two sets of opposing two-side pairs. For the opposing two sides, one is a first side 6a, and the other is a third side 6c. For the rest of the opposing two sides, one is a second side 6b, and the other is a fourth side 6d. The directions 6i and 6k in which the coils on the first side 6a and the third side 6c of a pair are respectively stacked are essentially the same, while the directions 6j and 6l in which the coils on the second side 6b and the fourth side 6d of another pair are respectively stacked are reverse to the directions 6i and 6k.
