PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce weight and cost of a butterfly valve. SOLUTION: The butterfly valve 10 is provided with a shaft member 12 and a valve plate shape body 14. The shaft member 12 is formed out of metal hollow tube pipe material. A flat part 16 of which cross section is flattened in roughly elongated circle shape is formed on a part of the shaft member 12. The valve plate shape body 14 is formed out of resin subjected to insert forming around the flat part 16 of the shaft member 12, and expands along a major axis direction of the flat part 16. The maximum thickness 14Tmax of the valve plate shape body 14 including the resin part 14c enclosing the flat part 16 of the shaft member 12 is set to pipe outer diameter of the pipe material 12 or less.
