Sofa seat frames are made from two end sections 5 each having a hollow side and back portion, which back portions are connected by one or more telescoping back inserts 14. The end sections 5 are made by splitting a single chair frame in two and additional back inserts may be made by splitting the insert 14 of Fig. 4 in two. The end sections 5 and inserts 14 are made from two moulded fibre or synthetic resinous preforms stapled or stuck together along the coinciding peripheries to form a hollow side and back and laminated bottom, which when split in half provides apertures 27 into which the peripheries of other units may be telescoped. Elastic webs 133 are stretched across the seat portion to support cushions. The end sections 5 and back inserts 14 may be upholstered. Hollow arm rests 76 with or without wings 77 may be clipped over a rib 73 on the side of the end portion (Fig. 11). A metal leg frame 31, 130 is disposed in recesses formed in the laminated bottom of the end sections 5. Metal braces 32, 33 are fixed to the leg frame 31 and fit into the hollow of the back insert 4. |
