The roof rod is fitted by placing one end of the rod in a space (38) in the gutter strip (16). The strip has an S-shaped cross-section and includes a flange (36, 37) which acts as a stop for the rod. The space for the roof rod is formed by a gap in this flange. A gutter is placed on top of a row of uprights. A ridge is laid between two rows of uprights. The rod is fitted between the gutter and ridge so that it rests against the gutter. The gutter strip is secured to one of the gutter length edges. Roof sections comprising e.g. glass panes or film are fitted between the gutter and ridge. An independent claimS are also included for a greenhouse constructed by this method, using a gutter strip with two stops for fixing the roof rod in the length direction.
