The predominately (R)-(-) isomer of 1-alken-3-of compounds of the formula: (see formula I) where R1 is a saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group containing from 1 to abo ut 12 carbon atoms, and R2 is hydrogen, are most effective attractants for mosquitoes.
