METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR COLOR GAMUT ADJUSTMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the mapping of points that fall outside a color gamut which can be represented by an output device to locations within its color gamut. SOLUTION: The method includes: steps of determining a plurality of gamut points each representing a regional boundary of the color gamut which can be represented by the output device in a color space; curvilinearly modeling at least a portion of the regional boundary of the color gamut represented by a set of the gamut points; mapping a specific color outside the boundary of the color gamut to a color within the color gamut and representing the specific color using a color corresponding to the mapped color gamut, a color point 34 representing the specific color is projected to a model 32 obtained by the modeling step and a projected point 36a (36b) is projected from the model 32 to a mapped color point 38a (38b) within the color gamut in the mapping step.
