<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a direct methanol fuel cell which can implement reduction treatment of the surface oxide of a cathode catalyst by a simple device and operation, and as a result, can exert excellent power generation characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: This is an operation method of a direct methanol fuel cell in which, by supplying and operating a methanol solution with higher concentration at operation start or during the course of operation than at normal operation to an anode 2, or by operating at a battery temperature higher than at the normal operation time, or by operating by making the differential pressure of the supply pressure of the methanol solution to be supplied to the anode 2 against the supply pressure of an oxidizer gas to be supplied to the cathode higher than at the normal operation time, the methanol supplied to the anode 2 is permeated through an ion exchange film and moved to the cathode, and is made to perform reduction treatment of the cathode catalyst, and to perform activation treatment of the battery. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
