PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can prevent a cleaning blade from everting or creaking. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, a new image forming position is calculated when an image forming position on an intermediate transfer body is changed upon forming the next image; in a residual toner after secondary transfer, at least a portion of the secondary transfer residue toner to be within the next image forming region is removed by bringing a cleaning means into contact with, while the residue toner out of the next image forming region is passed as it is by separating the cleaning means; and the passed toner image is reversely transferred onto an image carrying body to be collected onto the image carrying body while the toner image is again passed through a transfer unit in an image forming unit.
