The invention relates to a system for reducing the quantity of diesel fuel in the lubricating oil of a motor vehicle diesel engine (1) having an exhaust line (2) that is equipped with pollution-control means (3) which are associated with regeneration means employing the post-injection of fuel to the cylinders thereof. According to the invention, the engine is associated with a coolant circuit (4) having a temperature that is controlled by a thermostat (5) which is driven by control means (6) to a lower temperature threshold or an upper temperature threshold. The invention is characterised in that the control means (6) are adapted to drive the thermostat (5) to the upper threshold thereof when a regeneration phase is triggered (10) and the engine rotational speed (8) is less than a pre-determined speed threshold and the torque (9) delivered by the engine is less than a pre-determined torque threshold and less than the upper threshold thereof in other engine operation modes.
