PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify and miniaturize a mechanism that brings a charging-roll cleaning member into contact with the charging roll and separates it therefrom. SOLUTION: In the charging-roll cleaning mechanism 50, a conductive metal plate 36 to which a cleaning brush 34 is attached is disposed so as to be brought into contact with the charging roll 26 and separated therefrom with a guide frame 38. Semiconductive contact brushes 40 longer than the cleaning brush 34 are attached to both ends of the cleaning brush 34 such that the contact brushes 40 are in contact with the charging roll 26. The metal plate 36 is grounded by a grounding wiring 44 provided with a switching circuit 46. When the grounding of the metal plate 36 is turned on by the switching circuit 46, the contact brushes 40 are curved towards the charging roll 26 by the electrostatic attracting force of the charging roll 26 and, consequently, the cleaning brush 34 is brought into contact with the charging roll 26. At the same time, when the grounding of the metal plate 36 is turned off by the switching circuit 46, the contact brushes 40 are released from the electrostatic attracting force of the charging roll 26, the metal plate 36 is moved downwards and, consequently, the cleaning brush 34 is separated from the charging roll 26.
